Thiruvananthapuram: The court found the accused guilty in the case of rape and murder of a foreign woman in Kovalam. The accused are Umesh and Udayakumar, natives of Thiruvananthapuram. The verdict will be on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram Additional Sessions Court declared the accused as guilty. They were accused of rape, murder, gang assault and destruction of evidence. The prosecution was able to prove all these. With this, the court declared them guilty.

The accused killed the foreign woman on February 1, 2018. The foreign woman had come to the Ayurveda center in Pathancode for treatment. The woman went to Kovalam on February 14 and later went missing. After a month, her body was found in a forest.

During the subsequent investigation, the police got information that the two accused were regularly coming to the forest to use drugs. After this, they were taken into custody and after being interrogated, the accused confessed to the crime.

The accused gave cannabis to the foreign woman who came to Kovalam. Then both of them tortured her when she became unconscious. When she regained consciousness, the accused had an argument with the woman. Meanwhile, the woman was strangled to death. Then they tied her neck with creepers to make it look like a suicide.
