Malappuram: Attempt to smuggle gold through Karipur airport. Tahir, a native of Mancheri, was arrested by the police over the incident. Police have also seized one kilo of gold from his possession.
He was arrested from the airport premises. He tried to smuggle gold by hiding it in his anus. Authorities were unable to find the gold during the security checks at the airport. After this, he was being watched by the police out of suspicion. Relatives had come with a vehicle to take Tahir. The police caught him while he stepped into the car.
When questioned, he initially denied the crime. But later the gold was found in the X-ray tests. He hid the gold capsule in his anus. Four capsules were seized from him. According to the police, the seized gold is worth Rs 54 lakh.
