Thiruvananthapuram: The 27th International Film Festival will begin tomorrow. The exhibition will be held in fourteen theatres, including the main venue, Tagore theatre. 184 films from more than 70 countries will be exhibited.
Ten thousand delegates will be a part of IFFK this time. The main attractions of the festival are Serbian films on the theme of war and survival. The opening film is ‘Tori and Lokita’, which tells the story of a refugee girl and her brother who come to Belgium from Africa. The 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award is to Hungarian director Bela Tarr. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the festival tomorrow evening at Nishagandhi Auditorium.
32 films by women directors will be screened at the festival. Women’s films from 17 countries are being screened in the international competition category, including Ukraine’s film ‘Klondike’ and Vietnam’s film ‘Memoryland’. Six new-wave films will also be screened, sharing the current political and living conditions in Serbia. ‘Boy from Heaven’ , a political thriller depicting the life of a student, whose religious politics in Egypt, which threw him into crisis, will be screened in the world cinema category.
