Thiruvananthapuram: Minister Ahmed Devarkovil said that the first ship will arrive in Vizhinjam in September 2023. 100 working days have been lost due to the strike.
The government has spent around Rs 100 crores for the rehabilitation of Vizhinjam. All boats in the Vizhinjam area are insured. The minister said that the land of the fishermen has not been acquired. The Cabinet meeting also decided to hand over land to the Fisheries Department to construct a building complex to rehabilitate fishermen in the district.
The commissioning of the port will pave the way for development in the area. It will double the 15,000 tonnes of rock deposited per day for port construction. Ahmed Devarkovil informed that Vizhinjam will pave lead the way for the development of small ports and railway connectivity has been approved.
