Ernakulam: High Court allowed 17-year-old daughter to donate liver to father who is under treatment for severe liver damage . Devananda got permission to donate liver to Prathish, a native of Thrissur.
Currently, only adults are allowed to donate organs. This is what prevented him from receiving liver from Devananda. Thus he approached HC for permission. The court had directed the expert committee to examine the patient’s health condition. The order is also based on the report related to this.
Prathish is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam due to serious liver disease. Liver transplantation is the only option to save his life. After this, they were in search of donors and the inquiry finally ended on his daughter.
Single bench of the High Court gave permission for organ donation. The court opined that the parents are blessed to have a daughter like Devananda.
