Nellore: Eight people, including a woman, died in a stampede during a TDP rally in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district. The rally was led by former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Just before the arrival of Naidu’s motorcade, there was heavy rush in the area. The accident happened when the drainage canal broke and the people fell into it. Some of the injured are in critical condition. They have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Chandrababu Naidu, who cancelled the meeting after the accident, also announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased. The party leaders said that the party would provide assistance to the students of the families of the deceased for further studies and ensure the best treatment for the injured.

Andhra assembly elections are to be held in 2024. Ahead of this, party meetings and road shows are being held across the state under the leadership of TDP.

The Prime Minister condemned the accident. Financial assistance will be provided to the family of the deceased ones, informed PM.

“Pained by a mishap in Nellore, AP. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the kin of each deceased and the injured would be given Rs. 50,000” tweeted the office of the Prime Minister.
