Cumbum: Wild tusker Arikomban who entered residential area in Cumbum town has returned back to forest area of Meghamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Arikomban is currently within 1.5 kilometres from the forest border. So the Forest Department is of the conclusion that Mission Arikomban need not be necessary. Arikomban was last seen near the mission area on 2 am.
The search for Arikomban still continues although the wild tusker has entered the forest area. Top officials have reached the spot. Arikomban will be tranquilized only of it enters the residential areas again. The team was searching for Arikomban from early morning. But the wild tusker was not found even after hours of search. According to the signals from radio collar, Arikomban is currently in Koothanachi Reserve Forest.
Three kumki elephants were assigned for Mission Arikomban. The elephants are not likely to be returned as the fear of Arikomban entering residential areas prevails. The traffic restrictions continue in Cumbum bypass due to Mission Arikomban.
