New Delhi – The upcoming Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council meeting, scheduled for July 7, is expected to address several crucial matters, including the Indian teams’ participation in the Asian Games and sponsorship and media rights. The meeting holds significance as it will determine the future course of action for Indian cricket on various fronts.
One of the primary topics on the agenda will be the participation of the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams in the forthcoming Asian Games, to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. The council will deliberate on the feasibility and potential benefits of India’s presence in the multi-sport event, considering the busy cricketing schedule and other factors that may impact player availability.
In addition to the Asian Games, the Apex Council meeting will also discuss crucial matters related to sponsorship and media rights. Following the conclusion of the last financial year, the BCCI had recently announced the release of an Invitation to tender for the National Team Lead Sponsor right after BYJU’S, a prominent EdTech company, exited the scene. The council will assess various proposals and strategies to secure a suitable and long-term sponsorship deal for the national cricket teams.
Meanwhile, the meeting is likely to address playing conditions specific to the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament. The council will focus on discussions regarding the Impact Player Rule, aiming to evaluate its effectiveness and determine any necessary modifications or improvements.
