New Delhi – In a bid to nurture and empower aspiring umpires and technical officials, the national sports federation, Hockey India, has introduced the Hockey India Match Officials Education and Development Plan. This holistic initiative aims to provide education and support to officials currently officiating at district and state-level tournaments, enabling them to progress within the officiating system.

The purpose of this educational plan is to equip umpires and technical officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to officiate effectively in Hockey India-sanctioned events. As part of the programme, selected officials will initially have the opportunity to officiate in the Hockey India Sub Junior Level Zonal National Championship and later be considered for inclusion in the Hockey India potential list.

Hockey India has recently notified its Member Units to nominate their registered umpires and technical officials through the Hockey India Member Unit Portal. The candidates will then be selected by Hockey India based on eligibility criteria and invited to attend the Hockey India Umpires and Technical Officials workshops scheduled to take place in July 2023.

These workshops will be conducted in five zones across the country, namely New Delhi, Pune, Andhra Pradesh, and Jamshedpur, and the venue for the North East Zone will be announced later.

To ensure gender equality and representation, Hockey India has urged its member units to nominate a maximum of six technical officials and umpires, out of which three must be female and three male. The federation is committed to providing equal opportunities for both men and women officials, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the sport.
