New Delhi: India concluded their successful campaign at the 2nd Elorda Cup 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan, with a remarkable haul of five bronze medals. Vijay Kumar, Sushma, Keisham Sanjith Singh, Neema, and Sumit all showcased their boxing prowess and brought glory to the country.

Vijay Kumar, competing in the 60kg category, displayed a spirited performance throughout the tournament. However, in the semifinals, he faced a tough challenge against Beknur Ozhanov of Kazakhstan, ultimately losing a hard-fought match by a narrow margin of 1-4. Despite the defeat, Vijay Kumar secured a well-deserved bronze medal for India, leaving the tournament with his head held high.

In the women’s 81kg category, Sushma exhibited her tenacity and determination against Fariza Sholtay, the 2023 World Championship bronze medallist from Kazakhstan. Although Sushma fought valiantly, she had to accept a unanimous decision defeat of 0-5, concluding her campaign with a bronze medal.

The other Indian pugilists who contributed to the medal tally at the Elorda Cup were Keisham Sanjith Singh in the 48kg category, Neema in the 63kg category, and Sumit in the 86kg category. These talented boxers showcased their skills and resilience, securing bronze medals for India and making the nation proud.

Recognising their achievements, the Boxing Federation of India announced that each bronze medallist would be awarded prize money of USD 200.

The collective performance of the Indian boxers reflects the dedication and hard work they have put into their training. Their success at the Elorda Cup not only brings honour to themselves but also highlights the progress of Indian boxing on the international stage.
