Dissatisfied over inviting Muslim League, CPI state leadership to stay away from CPM seminar

Thiruvananthapuram: The state leaders of the CPI have decided not to attend the CPI(M) seminar on the Uniform Civil Code. They have withdrawn from the event in protest against the inclusion of the Muslim League, as the party was invited to participate in the seminar, which was initially planned as a program of the Left Front. However, the CPI has granted permission to its district leaders to take part in the seminar.

The CPI expresses profound dissatisfaction with the decision to invite the Muslim League to the seminar. Internal discussions within the CPI raised concerns about the sequence of invitations, suggesting that it was improper to invite the Muslim League, a key party in the UDF, before extending invitations to the Left Front parties. Taking into account the prevailing sentiment within the party, the prominent leaders abstained from attending the seminar.

The CPI has communicated that their leaders will be unable to attend the seminar due to the National Council meetings. However, the CPI(M) is actively working towards resolving the differences by reaching out to those leaders who are not participating in the National Council. It has been reported that senior leaders are making sincere efforts in this regard. Furthermore, the CPI district leaders have been included in the CPI(M) organizing committee for the seminar held in Kozhikode.

The current focus of the CPI(M) is to establish closer ties with the Muslim League and gain support from Muslim voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Similar to their approach during the CAA issue, there were plans to include the Congress as well, but the CPI(M) eventually withdrew from that decision.
