Srinagar: For the first time, a peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi celebration took place in Kashmir without incidents of stone-pelting, threats, or bomb blasts. This marks the first celebration of Ganesha Chaturthi in Kashmir since the army took action against terrorism. The largest festival and puja were organised at the Ganapatiyar Temple in the Habba Kadal area of the city.
Kashmiri Pandit leader Sanjay Tickoo expressed his joy at celebrating Ganesha Chaturthi in Kashmir, just like in other parts of the country. Pujas, including Havan, took place at the temple, along with a 12- to 14-hour-long yajna, aarti, and a procession at Siddhivinayak Temple. An environmentally friendly Ganesha idol was immersed in the Jhelum River. This marks the first Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in Kashmir since 1989.
