Canada seeks private dialogue after Bharat orders the removal of its 41 diplomats

New Delhi: Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly has stated that talks with Bharat are ongoing following Bharat’s demand for the withdrawal of 41 Canadian diplomats from the country. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently emphasized his intention to avoid provoking Bharat and expressed a desire to collaborate with the nation. Melanie Joly subsequently reiterated Canada’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“We prefer to keep diplomatic matters private and maintain the confidentiality of our discussions,” Melanie Joly stated. She added, “We believe that private dialogue is more effective in diplomatic affairs.”

Canada’s recent actions come in response to Bharat’s firm stance on allegations related to Nijjar’s murder.

Bharat temporarily suspended visa services, accusing Canada of providing a safe haven for terrorists. In response, Bharat issued a strict directive for the withdrawal of 41 Canadian diplomatic officers by the 10th of this month (October).

Canada maintains an embassy in Delhi and consulates in Chandigarh, Bangalore, and Mumbai, with 62 Canadian diplomats currently stationed in Bharat. Earlier reports suggested that this number exceeds the count of Indian diplomats in Canada.
