Thiruvananthapuram: A theft occurred at the Panayara Thriporittakavu Temple in Varkala. The hundi box was broken, and money was stolen during the incident that took place last night. The thief gained entry into the temple by breaking the door. Temple staff who arrived at the scene reported that money and several valuables were stolen. CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained, and fingerprint experts have commenced their examination.
A similar theft occurred yesterday (OCT 6) in Nadapuram, Kozhikode. The theft took place at the Narikatteri Sree Sudarshana Moorthy Temple, where two bhandara boxes (treasuries) outside the temple’s sanctum sanctorum were forcibly opened. The money was taken from a box that had remained untouched for more than three months. It is estimated that a total of half a lakh of rupees was lost from the two treasuries.
