Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of intensifying rainfall in the state of Kerala. A yellow alert has been declared in 12 districts across the region. The districts under the yellow alert include Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Thrissur and Palakkad have experienced heavy rainfall, but no yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

In addition to the forecasted intensification of rainfall, the IMD has also issued a notification indicating the formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. This development comes despite the IMD’s earlier announcement that a cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea would transform into low pressure within 36 hours. The updated IMD report suggests that the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea is likely to evolve into a low-pressure system. As a result, heavy rains are expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Mahe, and Karnataka.
