Universities are accused of withholding vacancy information, raising concerns about unauthorised appointments

Thiruvanantghapuram: Universities in Kerala are being accused of not reporting job vacancies to the Public Service Commission (PSC). This issue has sparked concerns about the potential for illegal and unauthorised appointments of temporary workers. Illegal appointments are taking place for the position of “Driver Cum Office Attendant.”

Records indicate that there are a total of 172 vacant positions across eleven universities, but only 30 of these vacancies have been reported to the PSC. Moreover, among these universities, only six have partially reported their vacancies.

There have been reports that the university syndicates are attempting to permanently appoint existing temporary staff to these positions.
The breakdown of these vacancies includes Kerala (25), Calicut (10), KUFOS (Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies- 8), Agriculture (84), MG (Mahatma Gandhi University – 16), Sree Sankaracharya (8), Kannur (5), Veterinary (8), Health (5), and Fisheries (3). This situation has raised questions about transparency and the proper recruitment of staff within these academic institutions.
