Kochi: An explosion occurred today at the convention centre of Jahovah’s Witnesses in Kalamassery. One died and 23 people were injured, with five in critical condition. The explosion took place around 9:45 a.m.

The explosive device detonated in the middle of the stage within the convention centre, causing a loud and powerful blast. Many individuals were inside the convention centre at the time of the incident. So, the authorities fear that the current death toll might increase.

Local residents reported that the building shake due to the impact of the blast. The injured were shifted to the medical college for immediate medical attention.

There were more than 2000 people in attendance. Witnesses inside the venue reported a series of three explosions occurring in the vicinity of the stage, shocking those present inside. The conference, which commenced on Friday, attracted a large gathering from various parishes, such as Varapuzha, Angamaly, and Edappally, uniting for this event at the convention center. Access to the centre has been restricted, with the gates secured from the inside. Even journalists are not allowed to enter inside.
