CHENNAI: A poacher was fatally shot by a forest officer near Gudalur in Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred last night in the Vannathipara area of Meghamala Tiger Sanctuary, which shares a border with the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala. The hunter, identified as Ishwaran, a resident of KGpetty, was shot dead by forest department officials during a clash.

On the night of the incident, forest department officials were conducting patrols in the forest when a confrontation erupted between Ishwaran’s group of poachers and the officials. During the altercation, Ishwaran attempted to attack the officers with a knife, prompting the forest department officials to use lethal force in self-defense.

Following a gunshot wound to the chest, Ishwaran was promptly transported to Kamba Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. His body was then transferred to Theni Medical College for a post-mortem examination, after which it will be released to his family.
