Document falsification: Agriculture officer in Idukki sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and Rs 20,000 fine

Idukki: An agriculture officer in Idukki has been handed a three-year prison sentence and fined Rs 20,000 for committing financial fraud through document falsification. The sentence was delivered against P. Palani, the Agriculture Officer of Kanthalloor in Idukki. The verdict was delivered by Judge NV Raju of the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court.

Palani was found guilty of embezzling Rs 2,500 through fraudulent practices in the distribution of sugarcane seeds to five farmers. In this case, Senior Agricultural Assistant K Isaac, initially named as the second accused by the Vigilance, was released by the court. Palani had previously faced consequences from the Vigilance Court for embezzling the benefits associated with sugarcane cultivation.
