Thiruvananthapuram: Kochuveli and Nemom railway stations are undergoing a renaming process as part of a renovation initiative. Kochuveli Station will be renamed Thiruvananthapuram North, and Nemom Station will be known as Thiruvananthapuram South. The state government has granted permission to change the station names.
This action is aimed at designating Nemom and Kochuveli stations as sub-terminals of Thiruvananthapuram railway station. The decision was made due to the increasing number of trains operating at Thiruvananthapuram Central. This month, the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Divisional Manager wrote a letter to the state government regarding this matter. Yesterday, the Secretary of the Transport Department sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry, confirming the acceptance of this demand.
Many travellers, particularly those from North India, often cancel their journeys when they cannot secure tickets to Thiruvananthapuram. The lack of awareness about Kochuveli and Nemom railway stations primarily contributes to this issue. Therefore, renaming them as Thiruvananthapuram North and South respectively is expected to enhance the possibility of booking tickets.
