Thiruvananthapuram: Concluding a three-year-long search, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closed its investigation into the disappearance of Jesna. The CBI finalized the investigation in court, presenting a report that heavily criticized the police’s handling of the case. The CBI has informed the court that they are yet to find out what happened to Jesna and will resume the investigation once more evidence is available.

According to the CBI report, the police did not efficiently conduct the initial investigation during the crucial hours following Jesna’s disappearance. Within 48 hours, there were no attempts by the police to locate the missing woman. Furthermore, the CBI highlighted that the investigation only intensified a week after public protests.

Despite earlier hints from the police suggesting Jesna was alive, there has been no confirmation. The CBI confirmed that neither Jesna’s father nor her friend were involved in her disappearance.

Jesna Maria James, a graduate student, vanished on March 22, 2018, while traveling from her home in Erumeli to a relative’s house in Mundakayam. Despite investigations by the Police, Special Investigation Team, and Crime Branch yielding no results, the case was eventually transferred to the CBI.
