Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought permission from Kerala government to prosecute three police officials in the case of the death of a man while in custody at Thiruvallam police station. Thiruvallam SHO Suresh. V. Nair, SI Vipin Prakash, and Grade SI Sajeev Kumar were named as the accused.

Suresh (40) a native of Nelliyodu, Thiruvallam, died in February 2022 while in custody at the Thiruvallam police station. Those who accompanied him had said that the police beat up Suresh while in custody. The police stated that he was taken to the hospital due to chest pain, but his condition deteriorated critically, and he passed away while being transported to the Medical College hospital. Five people, including Suresh, were taken into custody by the police. They were taken into custody for assaulting a couple.

Earlier, the CBI had filed a report in the court implicating the police officials. The Home Department was approached for permission to add these officials as accused parties, but approval was not granted. The court questioned the submission of the report without government authorization. Subsequently, the CBI initiated another request for permission.
