Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stated that employers should adopt a sympathetic approach in the transfer of women employees. Since many women employees bear responsibilities for caring for children and elderly parents, the court emphasized the necessity for an open and compassionate approach towards them.
Women find it difficult to move forward with work and life in an unfamiliar situation. Women play an important role in protecting children and caring for sick parents. The court considered that the sudden transfer of life to another place may affect their mental state.
The court’s remarks came while considering a petition filed by two women doctors questioning the transfer from Kochi Udyogamandal ESI Hospital to Kollam Ashram ESI Hospital. This was clarified by a division bench comprising Justices A Muhammed Mushtaq and Shobha Annamma Eapen. The Tribunal was directed to decide the petitions on the basis of the judgment.
