Thiruvananthapuram: The Higher Education Department is planning to start a Religious Studies Center with headquarters in Ponnani targeting the vote bank. Higher Education Minister R Bindu informed that Arabic Language and Culture Center will be started in the name of Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdoom. She was addressing an international seminar organized by the Kerala University’s Arabic Department.
The state government has decided to honor Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdoom, a historian, scholar and Sufi. The government, which has been reluctant to promote other indigenous languages, has given a lot of support to the Arabic language learning center.
