Malappuram: The Malappuram district police chief issued a peculiar order related to vehicle inspections, stating that individuals leaving bars under the influence of alcohol should not be apprehended during checks. The directive, issued by SP Sasidharan’s office, instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) not to arrest those exiting bars after consuming alcohol. However, amidst significant controversy, the order has been rescinded.
The SP clarified that there was a mistake in the order’s preparation, emphasizing that officials were not supposed to enter bars and arrest people. The order was reportedly issued in response to complaints, but due to the misunderstanding, it has now been withdrawn.
