Alappuzha: The second phase of the charge sheet in the Ranjith Sreenivasan murder case will be submitted soon. In this phase, 20 individuals are accused of aiding the primary suspect in escaping and destroying evidence.

Former DYSP of Alappuzha, NR Jayaraj, who initially handled the case, recently relocated to Thiruvananthapuram. Consequently, the charge sheet will be filed after the new officer assumes charge. Police sources indicate that, upon the completion of the final report for the charge sheet, conspiracy charges may be levied against some of the accused, many of whom have already been apprehended.

The investigation team’s primary objective was to file a charge sheet within 90 days against both the direct perpetrators of the crime and any conspirators. Filing within this timeframe would prevent the accused from obtaining bail. Accordingly, the police expedited the charge sheet preparation. In the initial phase, the police filed charges against only 15 individuals. Notably, yesterday (Tuesday), 15 PFI terrorists were sentenced to death by the Mavelikkara Sessions Court in a historic verdict. The investigation team is now moving into the next phase of the case.
