Ernakulam: Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court has pronounced the sentence in the Mookkannoor, Angamaly massacre case, where accused Babu has been sentenced to death and double life imprisonment. The case involves the murder of Babu’s brother Shivan, Shivan’s wife Valsala, and daughter Smitha. The death sentence was specifically awarded in the case of murdering Smitha, with an additional fine of Rs 4,10,000 imposed.
The court found Babu guilty of charges including murder and attempted murder. The tragic incident occurred on February 12, 2018, at the Kunnappilly house in Edalakkad, where Shivan (62), Valsala (58), and their eldest daughter Smitha (30) were killed.
Babu also inflicted injuries on Smitha’s twins, Ashwin and Aparna, who tried to prevent the attack on their mother. Following the murders, Babu attempted suicide by jumping into the temple pool of Koratty but was apprehended by locals and the police.
