Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state government is set to conduct a survey on news of public interest. The survey aims to explore the preferences of the public in terms of news consumption, covering sources such as social media, news channels, and newspapers. The Kerala Digital University will undertake this study with a budget of Rs 65 lakh. The government approved the letter of interest submitted by Digital University after private institutions declined participation in the survey.
As part of the study, Digital University will also prepare a report on the pattern of survey conducted by Reuters every year. The survey’s objective is to find out the types of news that capture people’s interest across various media platforms. According to a Reuters poll last year, ‘national politics’ emerged as the favored topic on social media.
The government plans to conduct a similar study, and the findings are expected to influence changes in the content of government news and advertisements.
