New Delhi: ABVP in a press release condemned the biased and undemocratic behaviour of the Election Committee during the presidential debate at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Election Committee’s behavior towards the ABVP candidate for the president’s position, Umesh Chandra Ajmeera was biased and unconstitutional, involving preventing him from speaking during Presidential Debate on Thursday morning at 5 AM.

ABVP  demanded transparency in printing and using the number of ballot papers by the JNUSU Election Committee. ABVP expresses distrust in the Election Committee and demands public disclosure of the number of ballot papers printed and used.

It is to be noted that during the presidential debate’s question and answer session early Thursday morning, Umesh Chandra Ajmeera, the ABVP candidate for the president’s position, referred Mahatma Gandhi’s quote “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” in his speech in response to a question asked by another candidate, said the ABVP press release.

The press release outlined that without any basis or rule, the JNUSU Election Committee, in collusion with left-wing student organizations, began mistreating Umesh Chandra Ajmeera and prevented him from delivering his speech. This behavior of the Election Committee indicates its complete disregard for the democratic process of JNUSU elections by colluding with left-wing student organizations.

ABVP JNU unit Secretary, Vikas Patel stated, “The behaviour of the Election Committee, formed for the elections at the prestigious educational institution JNU, towards Umesh during the presidential debate, is clearly biased and unconstitutional as it involves preventing him from speaking. We strongly condemn this step and believe that the Election Committee is conducting JNU’s elections in collusion with left-wing student organizations.”
