New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has decided to hear the Ayodhya land dispute case on a daily basis from 6 August. The move comes after the mediation panel appointed by the Supreme Court failed to reach a amicable settlement.

Yesterday, the mediation panel led by Justice F. M. Khalifulla had submitted its report on the mediation report. It was on the basis of the report that the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi said that the hearing in the land dispute case will begin on 6 August.

The Chief Justice also said that the mediation process did not come to any settlement.

The five-member bench of the apex court had demanded on 18 July that the mediation panel submit its report between 31 July – 1 August. On the basis of the court’s order the mediation panel had submitted the report in a sealed cover.

On 11 July, the senior lawyer for one of the petitioners in the Ayodhya land dispute case had requested that the court should give a date of hearing the case as the mediation panel is unlikely to reach a final consensus.

The Supreme Court had constituted the three-member mediation panel on 8 March to seek a consensus as a final attempt to reach an out of court settlement. However, the mediation has failed to bring out a consensus. The Ayodhya case is moving towards its final leg which will being on 6 August when the apex court will hear the case on a daily basis.

A total of 14 appeals are pending before the Supreme Court against the verdict of the High Court of Allahabad. The Allahabad High Court had ordered the 2.77 acre plot be divided equally among the Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
