New Delhi: With the Lok Sabha elections looming, Bharat’s first Olympic medalist in boxing and former Congress leader, Vijender Singh, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His membership was accepted by BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde at a function held at the party headquarters in New Delhi, with senior BJP leaders also in attendance. Vijender Singh stated that he joined the BJP to contribute to the country’s development and work for the welfare of its people.
Vijender Singh holds the distinction of being Bharat’s first Olympic medalist in boxing. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he unsuccessfully contested as a Congress candidate from the South Delhi constituency, securing 13.56% of the votes.
