New Delhi: In a major setback for Congress leader and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested his nephew, Rahul Puri, today. Puri was involved in cheating the Central Bank of India to a tune of Rs. 354.51 crore.
Rahul Puri, who was the executive director of Moser Baer was arrested along with Deepak Puri, Nita Puri, and others in connection with the cheating case. He is charged with cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
According to reports, Moser Baer had taken loans from different banks since 2019 and went for debt restructuring many times. When the company failed to pay the debt a forensic audit was done and the account was declared as fraud by the Central Bank of India.
By committing fraud the accused have cheated the bank and profited from the act.
In the complaint to the CBI, the bank states, “The MBIL has committed fraud and cheated the complainant bank thereby making a wrongful gain to themselves and a wrongful loss to the lender bank which is a custodian of public money.”
Rahul Puri resigned from the post of executive director from Moser Baer in 2012, while his parents continue to be on the board. The company makes optical storage media like CDs, DVDs, etc.
Puri is also involved in the Rs.3,600 crore scam in buying 12 VVIP Choppers from AgustaWestland. It is believed that many senior Congress leaders are also involved in this scam.
