Bhubaneswar: The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, came down strongly against communist extremism faced by the nation currently. He said that the left wing extremism was the most critical internal security threat to the country. He spoke about the threat of left extremism while participating in the Review Meeting on Left Wing Extremism.
Chief Ministers of all the states affected by the communist extremism took part in the meeting under the Chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Naveen Patnaik during the meeting said, “The menace is the most critical internal security challenge faced by the nation and needs to be effectively countered by both the Center and the state governments.”
He also outlined that Odisha has been suffering from the scourge of left wing extremism for more than three decades.
Patnaik also informend that during the year 2018 till 15 August 2019, 26 left wing extremists died in police action, 85 were arrested and 35 surrendered.
Odisha Chief Minister added, “Odisha Government has been working in close coordination with the Union Government and the neighbouring State Governments to deal with the problem firmly. The Plan of Action of the state government against the LWE problem focuses o aggressive intelligence-based operations in the most LWE affected areas by Special Forces and CAPFs, intensified joint operations in the inter-state border areas, pro-active area domination in moderately and less affected areas and focused developmental initiatives for holistic development of the area.”
He also sought the central government’s support in supplying more security personnel and other infrastructure.
