Pune: Ashish Kasodekar hailing from Pune in Maharashtra finished the ‘La Ultra the High’ marathon and became the first Indian national to complete the 555 kilometres long marathon in Ladakh.

The ‘La Ultra The High’ marathon is also the “cruellest” marathon in the world. This event is organised every year in Ladakh, and this year the distance of the marathon was extended to 555 kms from 333 kms.

Among the five people who participated in the event, two were Indians. They were supposed to reach the destination in five and a half days.

The participants had to pass five mountains with almost 17,000 feet height.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Kasodekar said the challenges included lack of oxygen and the climbs.

“There were five challenges in the marathon – lack of oxygen, temperature variations, 14 cut-offs, the climbs, and the distance. So it is known as the cruellest marathon in the world,” he said.
