New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader, P. Chidambaram, failed to secure an anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court. The apex court today turned down his appeal against a Delhi High court rejecting an anticipatory bail in the controversial INX Media case.
The Supreme Court said that it is not inclined to give anticipatory bail to the Congress leader at this point as it may interfere with the investigation of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, SC told that Chidambaram could appeal for a regular bail from the trial court.
The court said that the investigation agency should be given sufficient freedom to conduct the investigation. It also rejected Chidambaram’s plea seeking transcripts from the ED of his questioning on three days.
Chidambaram was arrested by ED in connection with the INX Media case in which he is accused of giving undue help to the company and also for money laundering.
He has been in CBI custody since then.
