Chandrayaan-2 update: 93 per cent successful; Lost communication from Vikram lander; data being analysed; PM to address the nation at 8 am

Bengaluru: Communication from Vikram lander was lost at just 2.1 km from Lunar surface, ISRO Chairman K Sivan announced on Saturday. “Vikram lander descend was normal and as planned till 2.1 km. Subsequently, communication was lost. Data is being analyzed,” K Sivan said at the ISRO Monitoring Center in Bengaluru.

“This is Mission Control Centre. #VikramLander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km. Subsequently, communication from Lander to the ground stations was lost. Data is being analyzed. #ISRO” tweeted ISRO.

However, the orbiter, which has several instruments on board continues to hover around 100 kms over the moon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was present at ISRO HQ to witness the soft landing of the Vikram Lander on the south pole of the Moon, boosted the morale and lauded the scientists for their efforts and asked them to be courageous.

Modi also tweeted,“India is proud of our scientists! They’ve given their best and have always made India proud. These are moments to be courageous, and courageous we will be! Chairman @isro gave updates on Chandrayaan-2. We remain hopeful and will continue working hard on our space programme.”

Prime Minister Modi will address the nation at 8am from ISRO Control Centre today.
