New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has said that the mission objective of Chandrayaan 2 has been 90% to 95% successful. The ISRO’s message comes when India is plunged in grief after it lost contact with Vikram lander after it began its descend to the lunar surface.

ISRO said that the success criteria was defined for each and every phase of the mission. Till date 90% to 95% of the mission objective have been accomplished and said that ISRO will continue to contribute to Lunar science even though communication was lost.

ISRO had lost contact with Vikram after 12 minutes into its descent from orbit. The lander was passing through the ’15 minutes of terror’ phase that ISRO had earlier said. All the parameters of Vikram was functioning fine and it kept the expected trajectory. However, 12 minutes into the descent and just 2 kms from the surface of the moon, ISRO lost contact with Vikram.

India fell into a deep grief after much anticipation. However, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s encouragement and the prayers of billions of ordinary Indians the ISRO and the rest of the country have overcome the initial set back and is looking ahead with hope.
