New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted engineers on Engineers’ Day. The Prime Minister also paid tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary.

September 15 is celebrated as Engineer’s Day in India, to mark the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the engineering pioneer of India.
Sir MV was a civil engineer and statesman and the 19th Diwan of Mysore. He received India’s highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955. He is held in high regard as a pre-eminent engineer of India.
He was the chief engineer responsible for the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara dam in North-West suburb of Mysuru city and chief engineer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad. Visvesvaraya invented the block system, automated doors that close the water overflows and designed and patented the floodgates. These floodgates were installed at the Khadakwasla reservoir in Pune for the first time in 1903.
Sir MV became the chief engineer of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam project in Mysore, which was then the biggest in Asia. He was known for sincerity, time management and dedication to a cause.
