Muslim countries not happy with Imran Khan’s rhetoric against Modi: Pak PM asked to begin backdoor diplomacy with India

Islamabad: While Pakistan is trying to build up global support for its cause in Kashmir, Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are not happy about the verbal attacks of Imran Khan against Modi. They asked him to tone down this and engage in backdoor diplomacy with India to diffuse the tension.

Saudi Arabian Deputy Foreign Minister, Adel Al-Jubeir and UAE Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Al-Nahyan conveyed this message to Pakistan on behalf of the leaders of their countries and also other Muslim countries.

The Saudi and UAE leaders had met with Pakistani  Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Reports quote an official said that both Saudi Arabia and UAE had expressed their willingness to remove the tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the leadership of Saudi and UAE urged Pakistan to engage in backdoor diplomacy with India to ease the standoff.

Saudi Arabia and UAE also said that they were ready to persuade India to ease some of the restrictions in Kashmir. But for that Pakistan must tone down its rhetoric against Narendra Modi.

However, Pakistan has not agreed to move accordingly and did not want backdoor diplomacy but only conventional diplomacy and that too after India accepts some conditions.

India scrapped Article 370 and has begun the process to fully integrate Kashmir with India. The state has been bifurcated into two Union Territories namely Jammu and Kashmir and the other Ladakh.

Pakistan has been facing continuous backlash at international forums and from other countries concerning Kashmir. Even Muslim countries have backed India’s stand on Kashmir.
