New Delhi: Bansuri Swaraj fulfilled her mother former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s last wish on Friday.

Sushma Swaraj had promised senior lawyer Harish Salve a remuneration of “one-rupee” for representing India at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

The ICJ ruled in July that Pakistan had violated right to consular access to former Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav and called for a review of the death sentence ordered by a military court in Pakistan.

Bansuri Swaraj handed over Rs 1 fee on Friday thus fulfilling her mother’s last wish.

Hours before the death of Sushma Swaraj, she spoke to Salve and had asked him to come over to collect his fees for the Jadhav case.
“I spoke to her at 8:50 pm. It was a very emotional conversation…. She said ‘You have to come and meet me. I have to give you your one rupee for the case which you won’. I said ‘of course I will come to collect that precious fee’. She said to come tomorrow at 6 o’clock,” Salve said last month.

Salve gave credit for India’s success at the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case to Swaraj and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sushma Swaraj had acclaimed the ruling of ICJ as a great victory for India.
