New Delhi: The unprecedented strike by police personnel in front of Delhi Police Headquarters at ITO came to an end after the Joint Commissioner of Police, Devesh Srivastava,  accepted their demands.

Hundreds of police officials in uniform and otherwise came out to protests against the attack of police officials by lawyers at the Tis Hazari Court on 2 November.

The protestors relented only after the Joint Commissioner of Police, Devesh Srivastava, said,  “All your demands will be accepted. FIRs have also been registered in connection with Saket and Tis Hazari Court incidents. No departmental action will be taken against those who are protesting.”

Till the top cop intervened for them the police personnel were adamant that their demands be met and those behind the incident must be brought to book.

The Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal has promised ex-gratia compensation for the injured officers of Delhi police, who came under attack by the lawyers. He also promised good treatment for the injured police personnel and the lawyers.

The untoward incident began after an argument broke out between a police man and a lawyer at the Tis Hazari court premises. The argument soon escalated and came to a brutal showdown. The lawyers became violent and attacked the police and burnt police vehicles. Around 20 police personnel were injured in the attack.

Interestingly, the agitating police demanded that the present Delhi Commissioner of Police must be firm like the former IPS officer and current Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, who had been stern against agitating lawyers 31 years ago when she was Deputy Commissioner of Police in Delhi.
