Ayodhya: On the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima, Ayodhya witnessed hundreds of devotees taking a holy dip at Naya Ghat on the banks of river Sarayu on Tuesday early morning.
The Kartik Purnima is also known as Dev Deepawali.
Devotees take a holy dip in the river Ganga and other sacred rivers, lit earthen lamps at temples as well as banks of rivers on this day.
Kartik Purnima is closely associated with Prabodhini Ekadashi which marks the end of Chaturmas, a four-month period when Vishnu is believed to sleep. Prabodhini Ekadashi signifies the awakening of the god. Chaturmas penance ends on this day.
This day also is considered special for Radha, the lover of Krishna – Vishnu’s incarnation. It is believed that Krishna and Radha danced rasa and Krishna worshipped Radha on this day.
