New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Thursday tweeted on Thursday that they welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to refer a batch of petitions to a larger constitutional bench in the Sabarimala case.

The statement issued by Arun Kumar, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, added that matters related to traditions and customs are issues of faith and belief.
“Matters related to traditions and customs are issues of faith and belief. Restriction of women belonging to a particular age-group to the Sabarimala shrine has nothing to with gender inequality or discrimination, and that is strictly based on the speciality of the deity,” said in another tweet.

“We are of the firm view that the judicial review under whatever pretext in the matter will be violative of the spirit of the freedom of worship guaranteed by our Constitution. And the opinion of concerned authorities should be given paramount consideration in such matters,” the tweet added.
The Supreme Court has referred the pleas in the Sabarimala verdict to a 7-judge Constitutional bench. The decision was passed with a 3:2 majority of the 5-judge bench. However, the Supreme Court has maintained that there would not be a stay in its September 28, 2018 judgement of the Supreme Court – which had lifted the ban that prevented women and girls between the age of 10 to 50 from entering the holy shrine.
