New Delhi: Congress MPs from Kerala again brought discredit to the dignity of Parliament after two of them showed aggressive postures against Union Minister, Smriti Irani, and also rushed towards the treasury benches shouting. The BJP has demanded suspension and unconditional apology from Congress MPs T. N. Prathapan and Dean Kuriakose for their act.

The shameful incident occurred when the Lok Sabha was debating the burning of a rape survivor in Unnao. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury tried to communalize the burning of the survivor by saying that “Sita is being burnt.”

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, lashed back at the opposition and said that the Unnao matter was being communalized and politicized.

Irani said, ” “Yes, setting afire a woman is condemnable, a heinous crime. Yes, the rape and killing of a woman are inhuman but do not politicise the issue. No one has ever communalised the issue in this House.”

She also said that in West Bengal Panchayat elections rape was used as a political weapon.

After the debate got heated, Prathapan and Kuriakose, rushed towards the treasury benches shouting. Prathapan was seen rolling his sleeve and threatening the Union Minister.

Smriti Irani told the Congress MPs not to shout at her. The MPs were pulled back by their colleagues.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, condemned the incident and said, “This is the most condemnable behaviour. They came in a threatening position when she was speaking. She is a lady member of the house. It is most uncalled for and they should apologise.”

BJD also condemned the incident and its MP Anubhav Mohanty said, “The act not only hurt the sentiments of the women but also the men. I am with the chair what the decision will be taken.”

Aam Aadmi party MP Bhagwant Mann also condemned the Congress MPs behaviour in the Parliament.

While T. N. Prathapan represents the Thrissur constituency, his colleague Dean Kuriakose represents Idukki. A few weeks back Congress MPs from Kerala was forcibly thrown out of the House for unruly behaviour.
