Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police has said that anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters had fired around 1000 rounds which might have resulted in the deaths of 18 persons. The recovery of 405 empty cartridges of country made bullets suggest that protesters fired guns during the protests.

The death toll in the violent protests against CAA has resulted in 18 deaths in the state since Thursday.

The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), O. P. Singh, said that the protesters used women and children as shields. He said that the police did not open fire and the deaths were caused by protesters firing their guns.

The DGP also said, “It is a part of some conspiracy. Some NGOs and people affiliated to politics are also involved. A team is investigating it and we will find the truth.”

He also said that many outsiders were involved in the violent protesters and CCTV footage were being investigated to ascertain who all are behind the violence.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a tough stance against these protesters and is going forward to confiscate the property of these rioters. Teams of 4 members each will be constituted to confiscate the property and compensate the loss done to public and private properties.
