New Delhi: Vistara will be the first Indian carrier to have inflight WiFi in the New Year. The Tata Sons-Singapore Airlines (SIA) JV will provide this facility on Boeing 787 Dreamliners that will start joining its fleet from February to be deployed on medium haul routes like London and Tokyo from March-end.

It has ordered six B787s, with an option to order four more and inflight connectivity (IFC) will be on Vistara wide body aircraft initially.

“Vistara has tied-up with Nelco, and it has taken permission from ISRO also for some transponder space. They had come to us for some spectrum, which we have done and they will be launching these services very shortly. These will be data services…there can be voice services as well, but data is as good as voice because data use OTT (over the top) and can make WhatsApp calls, etc,”Anshu Prakash, Telecom Secretary, told reporters recently in Rewari (Haryana).

Vistara will get the six firm order B787-9 within a year from February, 2020.
