Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government has begun to show their true colors once they have acquired power. The government has now backtracked on their promise of complete loan waiver to the poor farmers of the state.

A Government Resolution said that crop loan and restructured loan that exceeds Rs. 2 lakh will not be eligible for loan waiver.

“Under Mahatama Jyotirao Phule Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme, farmers whose crop loan and restructured loan is more than Rs. 2 lakh will not be eligible for any benefit.”

The Government Resolution added that loans upto Rs. 2 lakh taken between 1 April, 2015 and 31 March, 2019 and not repaid till 30 September, 2019 will only be given the benefit of the scheme.

The loans taken from nationalized, district, co-operative banks, and co-operative societies along with other business banks will be considered.

The Shiv Sena, NCP, and the Congress in their Minimum Common Programme had promised a complete loan waiver to the farmers of Maharashtra.

However, now the government is under severe criticism for going back on their promises to the people and taking a U-turn on loan waivers.
