New Delhi: The Supreme Court bench on Wednesday said that there will be no stay on the Citizenship Act.
The three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said that unless the Centre is heard on the matter.
Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, told the bench that the government has been given copies of around 60 pleas out of the petitions. He said it wanted time to respond to pleas which have not been served on it.
The petitions challenging CAA will be now considered by a five-judge bench and after four weeks it will be heard in the court.
The SC also restrained all other high courts from passing any order on CAA.
Petitions on NRC will be considered separately. Assam and Tripura matters will be dealt together.
