New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected the mercy plea of Akshay Thakur, one of the four convicts in Nirbhata gang rape and murder case. Vinay Sharma, another convict had given a mercy petition to the President and was rejected. Akshay Sharma had submitted mercy plea hours after the rejection of Vinay’s plea by the President.Ram Nath Kovind had already rejected the clemency petition of Mukesh Singh earlier.
The Delhi court earlier today had observed that all the four convicts should be executed together. The court also granted one more week to the convicts to explore all legal ways.
Nirbhaya, 23 year old paramedic student was brutally raped and assaulted in a moving bus at night on December 16, 2012. She was assaulted by six member gang and was thrown out of the bus. The shocking incident stirred and outraged the nation. Nirbhaya succumbed to injuries on December 29 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
