New Delhi: Professor of Christian Medical College and first Indian woman elected fellow of the Royal Society in London, Gagandeep Kang, has asked fellow Indians, not to panic over COVID-19 as four out of five persons infected with the virus have got well on their own.

She said that the testing for the virus must be done when recommended. Most of the patients only need paracetamol drugs for their fever and cough.

Gagandeep Kang said, “For everyone, there is no need to worry too much or panic. We are exposed to viruses every day. Make sure you wash your hands well, wipe down or use disinfectants on surfaces. Avoid touching your face.”

Kang, who is the vice-chair of the International Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), based in Norway, also said that vaccines might be developed by next year.

COVID-19 seems not to cause severe diseases in children but is known to affect the elderly, and those with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and diabetes.

Gagandeep Kang also advises standing six to ten feet from those who are sneezing or coughing.
